A bay horse in three-quarter view — white blaze, black bridle, dark ground, with an inscription in the corner. Head and neck, close in. Ornate grey-and-gold frame. 5 x 7 in across the frame. Glass-free.

Sewn from repurposed fabric with recycled fill — whale or rhino in navy, rhino in khaki, dog in army green. Dog 17 in, rhino 15, whale 15.7. Old cloth shows its age: a faded patch, a small mended seam.

The 1874 design drawing for a plate, not a photo of one — a garden landscape ringed by a stylised leaf border, in blue-grey wash with the pencil lines still showing. Natural wood frame with a wide charcoal inner border and a thin gold lip. 8 x 8 or 15 x 15 in across the frame, so the drawing is a good deal smaller. Glass-free.
