1970s Capiz & Brass Lampshade with Glass Base

A drum shade built from windowpane capiz, each shell cut and laid by hand into petals, the seams traced in brass. Lit from within, it turns the whole thing to a soft, pearled glow — the reason these have drifted in and out of coastal rooms since the 1970s.

Capiz comes from the windowpane oyster, gathered along the shallows of the Philippines. No two panels read quite the same.

It sits on a clear glass base — a round flask of a thing with a flared neck and brass collar, so nothing hides behind the shell. The glass reads as air; the shade does all the work. Sold together as a complete lamp.
